If you haven't heard, the Wild and Growing Youtube channel is officially up and running. Richard and I have been hard at work planning videos, editing, and marketing. Our vision for the channel is to create weekly educational videos about the outdoors and nature. For example, we might have a video on how to forage and make medicinal tea completely in the forest; or we might go on a hike and search for mushrooms. Basically we are going to take what we teach everyday at work, and expand our audience. Open it up to those who might be comfortable on the couch but curious about the outdoors. In addition to our educational videos we might also add in some Vlog style videos as well as overviews of hikes that we do.
So far we have released a video about one of the first hikes we did upon arriving to the island, Kalepa Ridge ,and we have released a video about the adorable Hawaiian Monk Seal that we found on a bike ride. This Sunday, we will release video about another favorite hike of ours: the Maha'ulepu Heritage Trail so stay tuned for the release of that!
The Kalepa Ridge Trail hike features stunning views of the Na Pali Coast. It's one of the few hikes where you actually hike down to the view! It can be dangerous, especially if it's been rainy. We went on a dry day and the ground was still slippery and the edges of the trail are very brittle. Despite this, there were many people out hiking, even some tourists hiking in sandals! Want to learn more? Watch the video!
Our next video is about the Hawaiian Monk Seal. While biking on the east coast of the island, we spotted this young seal right before the conclusion of our ride. Richard knows a lot more about this species of seal than I do so he explains the attributes of the Hawaiian Monk Seal and the importance of the species. Learn more by watching the video below!
Growing comes with challenges. Both, Richard and I recently got promoted in a few of our jobs. Starting in March, Richard will be in a leadership position at our primary job which will add more stress and less time to edit and produce videos. In June, we both will be in a new leadership position at our separate summer camps. That's right we'll be apart for 8 weeks, will we record individual videos? Will we record a ton before we go our separate ways?? There are a lot of unknowns and I do not want Wild and Growing to become a source of stress in our lives. Because of this, I consider Wild and Growing just a hobby, we love doing it but if it comes to a point where we are stressed, pushing ourselves to post another blog or video, then we'll need to take a step back. We hope our followers understand and support us through these challenges!
All of that being said, we are super excited to share with you our new youtube channel and we hope you check it out. We only have two more weeks here in Kauai, Hawaii then we will spend a week and a half in Washington State, followed with heading back to the Northeast to resume our normal lives. In the next few weeks you can expect: a few more hiking oriented youtube videos and a blog post on what we did in Kauai.
If you have any questions or suggestions for us we'd love to hear them! Like I've mentioned above, all of this growing has made our lives a little wild, and my goal is to find an organized streamlined way to keep this thriving.
Thanks for supporting us!
-Hannah
